Polished Covellite Freeform
Locality: Acarí District, Caravelí Province, Arequipa Department, Peru
Chemical Formula: CuS
(Copper Sulfide)
Physical Description & Formation
Covellite is a rare, captivating copper mineral highly sought after by collectors for its intense indigo-blue metallic coloration and remarkable "oil-slick" iridescence. It forms as a secondary mineral in the supergene enrichment zones of copper ore deposits. As oxygenated, acidic surface waters trickle down through primary copper sulfides (like chalcopyrite), they dissolve the copper and redeposit it as a highly concentrated sulfide layer directly below the water table.
When sculpted and polished into a premium freeform or slab, this Peruvian Covellite reveals a deep, midnight-sky metallic finish. The baseline color is a rich, dark indigo derived from its high copper content. What makes Covellite truly mesmerizing is its natural iridescence; when rotated under light, it flashes brilliant, vibrant waves of violet, deep magenta, and brassy gold. This phenomenon is caused by thin-film light interference reflecting off the microscopic, tarnished layers of the mineral's platy, crystalline structure.
Metaphysical Properties
Deep Third Eye Activation: Operating at a profound cosmic frequency, Covellite is a major activator for the third eye and crown chakras. It is an exceptional tool for sharpening intuition, expanding consciousness, and enhancing lucid dream work.
Alchemizing the Shadow: Known as a stone of transformation, it assists the user in stepping into deep inner reflection, helping to clear subconcious blocks and dissolve old, repetitive karmic patterns.
Grid Positioning: Because of its reflective, mirror-like metallic properties and multi-dimensional color play, this Covellite piece is an incredible anchor for the center of a Metatron’s Cube layout. It works to ground high-vibrational intentions and reflect negative, stagnant energies away from your sacred space.
